Toronto-based artist, composer and producer Lydia Ainsworth will release her gorgeous new record later this month, and today she shares the album’s third single “Into The Blue”. The track premiered via Stereogum who called it “an arresting kick against a current that’s dragging Ainsworth down.”

Due out March 31 via Arbutus Records, Ainsworth will celebrate the release of the record with her first-ever headlining tour throughout North America. She will also make a stop at SXSW in Austin this week. Full tour dates can be found below.

Darling Of The Afterglow is Lydia Ainsworth’s second record and follow up to the JUNO Award nominated and critically acclaimed Right From Real (2014). The album features a team of local Toronto musicians, woven into Ainsworth’s programming, samples and string arrangements. “I usually have to be out of my element to get that spark of inspiration,” she says of songwriting. The songs on Darling Of The Afterglow began away from home, before being brought to fruition in her hometown.

Mixing yearning pop with other-worldly synthetic sounds, plush classical settings and weird-gothic R&B influences, Lydia Ainsworth’s new album is a richly imagined, richly felt work of future-pop classicism: an album of intimate emotions projected in heightened widescreen. The stunning, 11-track Darling Of The Afterglow showcases a great leap forward from Right From Real’s already prodigious experi-pop riches.

Jacques Greene’s forthcoming debut album Feel Infinite, due out via Arts & Crafts on March 10 (digital) / March 24 (vinyl) is an homage to a utopian idea of club culture; inspired by those vocal gestures and moments of human emotion cut throughout the history of dance music. “I want [the record] to be celebratory of all that we feel and do and experience” says the Montreal born and raised producer. “I really try to make music that connects people and speaks to the things that bring us together.”

With “Afterglow”, directors Mauriès Matos present an impressionistic love story. An unwavering celebration of youth and the discovery in a nightclub - a pure environment to get lost within. Shot on 16mm film following a local cast of real club-kids in parties and studios throughout Greene’s beloved Montreal, Mauriès Matos have created an evocative watercolour of the liberated art spaces dance music was designed to serve. “Afterglow” / “Feel Infinite” features a recital taken from the Montreal-based writer and futurist Arthur Kroker’s book Spasm - the cult 90s fiction piece about virtual reality. The film closes with the first sample of the album’s title track “Feel Infinite”.

“How does music connect us with something outside ourselves,” says Melissa Matos. “How can we capture that very specific stillness and euphoria?” Melissa Matos and Emmanuel Mauriès Rinfret collaborated with Jacques Greene the majority of the artist’s music videos including “After Life, After Party”, “1 4 ME”, and “No Excuse.”, plus an interactive film for “On Your Side” ft. How To Dress Well. For her studio Trusst, Matos has created campaigns and projects for J.W. Anderson, Rad Hourani, SSENSE, and The Tate Modern.

PRE-ORDER FEEL INFINITE HERE

Recently nominated for a JUNO Award for Dance Recording of the Year, Jacques Greene is the enigmatic, young artist who broke out of a generation of independent electronic labels Uno, 3024, Night Slugs, and LuckyMe as a genre-defining producer and DJ via 2011’s “Another Girl” – one of Pitchfork’s Songs of the Decade, 2013 favourite “On Your Side” ft. How To Dress Well as well as 2016’s club anthem and recent JUNO Award nominated track “You Can’t Deny”. Jacques Greene crafted a musical blueprint that inspired a generation who were raised at the intersection of contemporary music in the 90s: hip hop, RnB, house and techno.

At its heart, Feel Infinite is a record about the utopian idea of club culture - music about the club, as well as for the club in and of itself. Written over the course of two years, this debut album is the purest, most personal expression of the Jacques Greene sound created by the born and raised Montrealer, renowned for collaborating and remixing Tinashe, Radiohead, Sampha, and Shlohmo. Present on the record are Jacques Greene RnB vocal chops that he popularised in new club music - but here he returns to their original purpose: his own reference to Masters Of Work. Where they drew from their primary influence in disco, JG draws upon his own formative chart music.

NONSENSE AND HEARTACHE DOUBLE-ALBUM DUE OUT MARCH 31 VIA LATENT RECORDINGS

CANADIAN TOUR DATES BEGIN APRIL 5

With the release of Jerry Leger’s upcoming double-album, Nonsense And Heartache, just around the corner and new tour dates added to his cross country run, the acclaimed songwriter is sharing the lyric video for “Troubled Morn”.

From the Heartache side of the new record Leger says the song “mysteriously showed up. Don't remember much about writing it except the line ‘the buildings feel cold as the sun comes up’. I thought of that in Vancouver during the early morning, walking from the water back to the street.”

Due out March 31 via Latent Recordings, Leger will celebrate the release of Nonsense And Heartache with a hometown show on April 5 as part of Latent Recordings 35th anniversary celebration Latent Lounge - a very special live concert series in Toronto at The Monarch Tavern. The series will include headlining performances from iconic Canadian acts Cowboy Junkies and Skydiggers as well as multi JUNO Award nominated and Polaris Music Prize listed Lee Harvey Osmond. Openers include label mates HarpAcash & The Morals, Latent alumni Ivy Mairi, and special guest Thompson Wilson. Full Canadian tour dates can be found below.

Nonsense And Heartache is equal parts primal rock and roll, and raw, confessional balladry. The separation between the two is evident by the album’s title, and it is in fact two distinct collections of songs presented on two slabs of vinyl. In many ways, Jerry Leger’s artistic path has been leading up to this ambitious display of both sides of his musical personality, fueled by countless nights playing in clubs and bars with a loyal band equally committed to keeping rock and roll’s original flame burning.

Employing his distinctive live-off-the-floor recording approach on Nonsense And Heartache, producer Michael Timmins (Cowboy Junkies) focused on capturing the chemistry between Leger and his core musicians: multi-instrumentalist James McKie, bassist Dan Mock, and drummer Kyle Sullivan, along with guest vocalist Angie Hilts. The ragged-but-right results perfectly complement Leger’s tales of characters on the fringe, attempting to unravel life’s mysteries.

Leger describes the album himself by saying, “Mike Timmins came up with the idea of doing a double album, but it’s really two different records – Nonsense and Heartache – packaged into one. He had the idea to record one album as electric, bluesy, dirty rock and roll, with James and I on electric guitars, Dan on electric bass and Kyle bashing away. The other album was intended to be more of a singer/songwriter record with me on acoustic guitar or piano, James on fiddle or lap steel, Dan on upright and Kyle using brushes and percussion. So, it’s not an ego trip for either of us. It just felt like it made more sense to put them together, plus the fact that neither is overly long, just about 35 minutes each.”
