Canadian-based electronic musician Jacques Greene unveils “Believe”, his first new single/video of 2023, out today via Arts & Crafts. Wasting no time, “Believe” sets the pace immediately. With an urgent vocal refrain and a driving beat, “Believe” is one of Greene’s most direct tracks of his career thus far. The accompanying video, directed by Cameron Morse, harnesses the frenetic energy of a Jacques Greene set, with the underlying track displaying all the familiar JG hallmarks. “Believe” marks Greene’s first new solo music since the release of 2022’s Fantasy EP, and follows the success of Greene’s collaborative single with Bonobo, “Fold”. Of “Believe,” Greene adds: “Channeling the feeling of a year spent back in the real world. Fresh energy and bright colors. Fun for the sake of it.”

Greene has been making music “about the club” for over a decade. Over the course of multiple EPs, singles, and two full-length albums — 2017’s Feel Infinite and 2019’s Dawn Chorus — his sound has developed into an emotional haze. In 2020, Greene made headlines for creating “Promise”, the first single released with associated NFT that staked the owner to music publishing, and the following year released ANTH01, a collection of unearthed tracks spanning the earliest years of his career alongside previously unreleased tracks. Outside of his own releases, Greene has explored his relationship with the club in a variety of contexts, from remixing Radiohead to producing for Katy B, Tinashe and touring with The xx.

OURI SHARES JACQUES GREENE REMIX OF “HIGH & CHOKING PT.1”

Released last year, Ouri’s (Ourielle Auvé) Frame of a Fauna takes the Canadian artist's knowledge of big orchestral sound, and creates her own fusion. Today, she reveals the Jacques Greene remix of album standout track, “High & Choking Pt. 1”. “Having Jacques Greene remix one of my tracks was a dream,” says Ouri. “I remember his music being my main soundtrack while taking the metro to the conservatory in France, right before I moved to Montreal. It feels so good to hear ‘High & Choking Pt. 1’ through the JG filter.”

Jacques Greene adds “Whenever people ask me of artists from Montreal that excite and inspire me, Ouri is at the top of the pile. Shape-shifting and always breaking new ground. Frame of a Fauna is an amazing album I've come back to often. It was a joy to be asked to remix High & Choking, pt 1. For a hazed out loft in Chabanel.“

Recently, the Montreal-based multi-instrumentalist and producer announced her first offering of 2022 with the project bt002: self hypnosis tape. The 7-track project is meditative and ambient in nature, with piano-driven instrumentals from Zach Frampton showing off a different side of Ouri's abilities for something more improvisational.

bt002: self hypnosis tape arrived right on the heels of Frame of a Fauna, which finds Ouri exploring the cycle of birth, death, and constant rebirth; transcending through the creation of this album, as she explores what lies inside the lining of the big dharma wheel: trauma, control and vulnerability.

Last year Ouri also released a joint project with Helena Deland, Hildegard, which received widespread critical acclaim with Pitchfork praising the collaboration as "pure creative symbiosis" and The FADER describing as, "a hypnotic composition that ebbs in and out of darkness, mining strength in synchronicity."

Known professionally as Ouri, Auvé grew up in France and moved to Montreal at the age of 16 with dreams of becoming a composer. As Ouri developed her compositional ability, as well as her production and vocal chops, she integrated herself with late-night DJ sets in Montreal's underground rave scene and was eventually selected to take part in Red Bull Music Academy's Montreal Bass Camp. From there, her profile began to grow as she headlined Boiler Room's Montreal showcase, toured with the likes of Yves Tumor and Jacques Greene, released her first EPs Superficial and We Share Our Blood, and collaborated with fellow Montreal artist Helena Deland on the interdimensional Hildegard.

PRAISE FOR OURI

"effortless and sublime" - PAPER Magazine

"a richly rewarding left turn" -The FADER

Frame of a Fauna presents a compelling archive of Ouri's many musical personas. It's a nuanced encapsulation of her sound from underground DJ to fully-rounded composer. “ Exclaim!

"a master at crafting synth soundscapes that flow with ease and unexpectedly morph and shapeshift over the course of the track while grounding it all with her own airy vocals." - CBC Music

"expertly guides listeners through a narrative of anticipation, climax and release" - Office Magazine

"equal parts comforting and transcendent" - V Magazine

"dials in swooping sounds, echoey vocal syllables, a glitchy beat, tentative chords; the dance beat solidifies, falls away and reappears" - The New York Times

NEW ALBUM, DAWN CHORUS, OUT NOW VIA ARTS & CRAFTS

TOUR DATES BEGIN JANUARY 29, 2020

“If this isn't Jacques Greene's magnum opus, we'll be very curious to hear what is.” — Exclaim!

“It’s Jacques Greene operating on an entirely new level — his fullest and glossiest work to date, from the rapturous opening track ‘Serenity’ to the outward expanse of ‘Stars.’” — The FADER

“You get the sense that exploring unfamiliar equipment in new spaces has helped him find new possibilities in his own work—that by plunging himself into guitar pedals and classic French-house compression modules, he’s ushered in a new era for Jacques Greene without losing sight of his unique sentimentality.”  — Pitchfork

“The dozen tracks on ‘Dawn Chorus’ capture the hazy, ambient feeling of joyful exhaustion. It's an elegant soundtrack to a real moment in many ravers' lives, and rather than create the music you might listen to then, he scores the scene as if it were a movie.”  — Billboard

“‘Dawn Chorus’ hangs together as a cohesive work, even when Greene is pushing genre omnivorousness to giddy new extremes.”  — Bandcamp

"Coagulating in the form of a sprawling 12-track collection of diversified cuts, the project maintains the producer’s idiosyncratic arsenal of club-heavy textures, albeit repurposed for listening outside of the normative dancefloor atmosphere.”  — Hypebeast

Fresh off the release of his “intimate and immense” (Pitchfork) new album, Dawn Chorus, via Arts & Crafts, Jacques Greene is pleased to announce a slew of 2020 European and North American tour dates. Last week he debuted a sold out run of launch parties in Berlin, London, Manchester, New York, LA and Montreal. In early 2020 he returns to Europe and North America (Boston, Brooklyn, Portland, Vancouver, and Oakland). A full list of dates is below.

In conjunction with today’s announcement, Greene also releases the video for “Stars” - the second part of a narrative which started outside a warehouse party in his “Do It Without You” video. The track features spoken word from Canadian artist Sandrine Somé - who reconciles memories from her childhood over understated kik drums and synths. An evocative closer to the album, Mathieu Fortin’s piece of impressionistic cinema seeks to express early am euphoria as we settle back into reality after a night out. It’s an apt conclusion for an album which has been applauded for his cinematic atmosphere.

MATHIEU FORTIN DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT:

“‘Stars’ is the continuation of “Do it Without You”. It's getting lost in the pattern, merging with your habits. Bathing in LCL, syncing with the machine. Endlessly looping, losing sight of what’s real.
