STEVEN WILSON SHARES BIFFY CLYRO REMIX OF “PERSONAL SHOPPER”

Steven Wilson’s electronic tour-de-force “PERSONAL SHOPPER” has been remixed by one of the UK’s biggest rock bands.

The Biffy Clyro remix turns up the volume on the original, adding multiple searing guitar lines, a pummelling new rhythm track and a gorgeous ambient breakdown before transplanting the track’s guest vocalist Elton John into a cyclone of noise. Safe to say, it’s absolutely immense.

Steven Wilson on the Biffy Clyro Remix: “‘PERSONAL SHOPPER’ has already been chosen by numerous artists as the THE FUTURE BITRES track they wanted to remix and it's been fantastic to hear all the different interpretations. Now Biffy Clyro have come with perhaps the most radical reinvention of the song by taking the mainly electronic track and reimagining it as a huge guitar anthem, which just blew me away. Perhaps one for those that missed hearing the guitars in my recent music!”

STEVEN WILSON SHARES NEW TRACK, “ANYONE BUT ME”

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Today, Steven Wilson is sharing a song inspired by the idea of placing oneself into a multitude of imagined lives. “Anyone But Me” starts out simply, just piano and vocal, before it unfolds into a glorious, uplifting swirl of chiming acoustic guitars and imaginary choirs and orchestras. The track was recorded in The Future Bites sessions and originally closed that album.

Steven Wilson: “This song was a casualty of Covid19. It was originally the closing song on The Future Bites, the album was even mastered and cut with it in place, but the delay in releasing the album gave me the chance to re-evaluate and I decided to replace it with the more laid back and atmospheric Count of Unease. I still love this song though. Lyrically it’s about how it’s now possible to present to the world a version of yourself via social media that may have no bearing on reality - photos of yourself in places you’ve never been, hanging out with friends you’ve never met. It’s becoming more important to create the illusion of a desirable life on social media than it is to actually live it.”

Steven is currently finishing writing his first book, due for publication by Little Brown later this year and working on two new albums for release in 2022 and 2023.

“Personal Shopper” is the Elton John-featuring electronic tour de force at the heart of Steven Wilson’s recently released sixth album. Now the track has been remixed by the mighty Nile Rodgers who adds a Chic-esque rhythm guitar before pulling completely new shapes out of the track, effortlessly melding NYC disco to European electro-pop.

Steven Wilson: “You can probably tell from ‘Personal Shopper’ that I grew up hearing a lot of disco music played in the Wilson house, including the classic Chic masterpieces, so it’s an absolute thrill to have Nile stamp his legendary signature sound on the track."

“Personal Shopper” (Nile Rodgers remix) is online now everywhere. The original track features on Steven Wilson’s sixth album, The Future Bites, which was released to huge acclaim in January.

Each episode takes a different year and delves into album releases that helped shape Steven and Tim’s listening habits. As the tagline says, “music is finite, opinions are endless”.

“OK Computer for the Amazon age... one of the boldest and best albums Wilson has made” - Prog

"Wilson always was a sharp songwriter and has adeptly channelled what could be unwieldy concepts into bite-size, polished pop. Not prog, but always progress" - The Guardian 4*

“A great, grown-up pop record - knowing and self-aware, but never too much for its own good” - Mojo 4*

"It is Wilson's most varied, least guitar driven album to date. If that dismays fans who came to him through the alienated-yet-epic rock of Porcupine Tree, so be it" - The Times
