Following a period of intense creative exploration across East Africa, Moonshine unveils SMS for Location, Vol. 6—an album that transcends musical and cultural boundaries. The mixtape is set to be released May 2, 2025 via Moonshine/ADA Warner.

SMS For Location, Vol. 6 is the collective’s most ambitious release to date. The 20-track mixtape weaves together the raw pulse of Batida, Rumba, Singeli, Amapiano, Hip-Hop, and R&B, fusing ancestral rhythms with forward-thinking electronic production. The result is a vibrant and borderless soundscape rooted in the collective's diasporic vision of global club culture.

Collaborators include DJ Lag, Pierre Kwenders, UNIIQU3, Branko, Vanyfox, Black Rave Culture, and many more. More than a mixtape, SMS For Location, Vol. 6 is a multidimensional project that captures the essence of Moonshine's artistic ethos—community-driven, exploratory, and radically inclusive. The long-awaited mixtape weaves together a sonic map that spans from South to East Africa, with each track capturing Moonshine's unique way of blending global sounds into a cohesive energy that connects dance floors around the world.

Today, the JUNO Award nominated collective is also diving deeper into their ever-evolving soundscape with a second bundle of singles. “Moon” channels the Lisbon scene’s pulse with DJ Satelite, DJ Gálio, and Kelly Gomez, while “Monkey Effects” taps into the raw energy of Durban-based producer DJ Lag.

“Moon” is a lush, hypnotic journey carried by Kelly Gomez’s smooth, angelic vocals, flowing in Portuguese, English, and French. Floating over a spacey Afrobeat groove, her voice becomes a melodic invocation to the moon — a tribute to its fragile beauty and quiet power. The track opens with a delicate piano line that sets the tone, while DJ Satelite and DJ Gálio’s rich percussion and textured production build into something that feels both intimate and expansive — a slow-burning invitation to lose yourself on the dancefloor.

“Monkey Effects” is pure, unfiltered release — a masterclass in building and breaking tension. DJ Lag weaves together bold rhythms, warped synths, and pulsing compression to create a high-voltage anthem that feels like a futuristic marching band on the loose. It’s a call to explore, to let go, to move without thinking twice. With every beat, “Monkey Effects” sparks that childlike instinct to play and experiment, turning the dancefloor into a space of freedom, curiosity, and raw energy.

Moonshine are also releasing the first teaser for the upcoming feature film ‘Zaïre Space Program’, a bold cinematic project co-directed by Jorge Camarotti and Nizar Saleh, and produced by Moonshine, Roméo & Fils, and Shuffle Note. Shot between Kinshasa and Montreal, the film blends documentary, coming-of-age narrative, and Afro-futurist manifesto, following Pierre Kwenders, Hervé Kalongo, and their collective as they journey to meet Jean-Patrice Keka, a Congolese aerospace engineer leading his own independent space program. By fusing artistic, musical, and scientific perspectives, ‘Zaïre Space Program’ sketches the outlines of a contemporary African utopia — a vision carried by a new generation of creators, thinkers, and inventors.

MOONSHINE, the JUNO Award nominated collective is back with two fresh singles, “La Haine” and “Slow it Down”, in collaboration with NegoO, Yend, and UNIIQU3

The two singles, very different from each other, offer a first taste of the album’s cross genre, cross continental approach. Afro-futuristic, bass heavy, electro-funk sounds reverberate in very different ways throughout each composition. Upstaging polyrhythms created by the voices of Yend and NegoO, swirling percussive patterns and heavy base, make “La Haine” a futuristic and spacey afrobeat, reminiscent of ZAÏRE SPACE PROGRAM ACT II - the Moonshine short-film exploring the connection between art and science in modern-day Africa set to be released alongside the mixtape.

Yend, the Strasbourg-based multi-disciplinary artist and winner of the Buzz Booster competition, explores the rich textures of her vocal delivery, weaving vibrant, unique sounds into her compositions. NegoO, the Portuguese producer and DJ, on the other hand, brings his signature touch to "La Haine" infusing it with Batida – the electronic dance music associated with the afrodiasporic DJs of Lisbon. Drawing inspiration from his own upbringing in the suburbs that have given rise to some of the genre's most influential artists, NegoO delivers a fresh and dynamic take on the sound.

“Slow it Down” is ironically anything but slow. The track features UNIIQU3, the electrifying New Jersey DJ, rapper, and producer known for shaping and globalizing the Jersey Club movement. From her early career as a sought-after vocalist in the club scene to remixing iconic tracks like Crystal Waters’ "100% Pure Love," UNIIQU3’s high-energy, hybrid dance sound has always been about movement. On “Slow it Down”, UNIIQU3 delivers her trademark club-driven intensity, blending pulsating beats with a genre-defying sonic palette to craft an irresistible dancefloor anthem.

Nominated for the 2022 JUNO Award for Global Music Album of the Year, Moonshine celebrated their 10th anniversary in 2024, marking a decade of pushing musical boundaries. Known for their genre-blending sound, they fuse house music, Batida, Rumba, Singeli, Amapiano, Hip-Hop, and R&B—merging ancestral rhythms with futuristic textures. Their work features collaborations with artists such as DJ Lag, Pierre Kwenders, Uniiqu3, Branko, Vanyfox, Black Rave Culture, and more.

It’s an appropriate globe spanning follow-up to Moonshine’s impressive discography, who has traveled, played sold out tours and festivals in Europe, Africa and Americas, spinned beats, explored, but more importantly connected with like-minded visionaries and artists globally.
