HOMESHAKE — the long-running solo project of Toronto-based musician Peter Sagar — announces Horsie (Deluxe), the expanded edition of his most recent 2024 album, Horsie, and shares its lead single “Waiting For The Phone To Ring.” The third album from Sagar this year, Horsie (Deluxe) features melodic guitars over saturated drums, woozy vocals, treading indie, beats, and jazz influences. Horsie (Deluxe) comes with six new songs, and is out November 8th on Dine Alone Records and SHHOAMKEE.

In June, HOMESHAKE presented Horsie, the follow up to March’s CD Wallet. Written and recorded at his home studio in Toronto, Horsie explored Sagar’s complicated feelings about returning to live performance. Deepening his relationship to loneliness and anxiety, the record examines those themes in the context of touring. Employing various textures influenced by artists like Four Tet and My Bloody Valentine, the rhythmic forms of D’Angelo and Sade, and moments of ambient Americana found in the works of Ry Cooder, Horsie honors Sagar’s diverse influences, yet is adrift within its own transportive imagination.

Today, HOMESHAKE — the long-running solo project of Toronto-based musician Peter Sagar — releases his second album of 2024, Horsie, via Dine Alone Records. "This album is mostly about being on tour, and was mostly written while on our first tours back from COVID lockdowns,” says Peter. “It was strange to go back after so much time off, but gave me some clarity on the experience and my place in it."

In celebration of the album’s release, HOMESHAKE hosted an album listening and music video screening event yesterday in LA at Brain Dead Studios.

HOMESHAKE is the expression of how Peter experiences the world and the sounds he wants to hear in it. His sound is often imitated but has proven to be entirely his own; textural and profound, uniquely honoring his diverse influences but adrift within its own transportive imagination. Horsie employs various textures influenced by artists like Four Tet and My Bloody Valentine, the rhythmic forms of D’Angelo and Sade, and moments of ambient Americana found in the works of Ry Cooder. Peter approaches every album with the same frame of mind, composing purely for the joy of the moment without consideration to potential commercial reception. Now on his seventh album, a trip through the Homeshake catalog is one of evolution, reflection, self-love, and a clear-eyed realism about the world and a longing for the gentler place it could be.

HOMESHAKE — the long-running solo project of Toronto-based musician Peter Sagar — unveils the new single/video, “Empty Lot”, from his second album of 2024, Horsie, out June 28th via Dine Alone Records. Inspired by a dream Sagar had in a hotel, the song explores how dreams become a storage space for emotions, and whatever is leftover for the waking state.

The video for “Empty Lot”, starring Salina Ladha and directed by Jim Larson, follows singles “Nothing 2 See” and “Simple” and completes the trilogy of videos for Horsie. Inspired by the film Paris, Texas, the “Empty Lot” video opens with Peter abandoning his car in an empty parking lot and wandering into a desert before stumbling upon a limousine and beginning a psychedelic, dream-like journey, accented with fast transitioning colors. “The transformation is complete, and I can leave now” says Peter. “Paris, Texas is my favorite movie, Star Trek: The Next Generation is my favorite TV show, and ‘Windowlicker’ is my favorite music video.”

“The idea of the trilogy we came up with was for each video to represent the three main stages of touring and insert these themes that Pete said his album was about,” says Jim Larson. “‘Nothing 2 See’ was about Pete's relationship with playing live, "Simple" was about being on the road and the anxiety of rushing from gig to gig, and ‘Empty Lot’ is about finally coming home to your loved one transformed into a blue alien guy, filled with relief of making it through another tour.”

On June 27th, HOMESHAKE will also host an album listening and music video screening event at Brain Dead Studios to celebrate the release of Horsie.
