Acclaimed composer and producer Ruby Singh continues to push musical boundaries with the release of his latest single, "Radiate", from the forthcoming album Vox.Infold II, a follow-up to his JUNO Award-nominated and Western Canada Music Award-winning project Vox.Infold. This second single offers a sensuous and introspective journey, blending a cappella mastery with a deep and rich tapestry of voices.

“Radiate” defies pop convention, unfolding at its own pace, beginning with an ember of droning voices before building and expanding into a powerful and emotional flame of polyphonic poetry and complex, interlocking melodies. The composition tracks a personal awakening of liberation through sound “unlocking wings in your throat,” explains Singh.

This a cappella piece brings together Indigenous, Black, and South Asian voices, highlighting the sheer force of collective vocalization in a musical exploration that intertwines the past, present, and future “Penetrating time through being, before the after of now.” It’s a moody, contemplative, and sultry single that stands as an ode to the transformative power of song in our lives, “these hymns bring worlds upon worlds into existence.”

Featuring the soaring vocals of Dawn Pemberton and Tiffany Moses, with the rhythmic stylings of Shamik Bilgi and Ruby Singh himself, “Radiate” immerses listeners in a sonic landscape that vibrates with emotional depth and vibrant (non-linear) storytelling. With Vox.Infold II, Singh once again demonstrates his ability to craft monumental records that not only honour ancestral legacies but also push the boundaries of contemporary music. This latest single is a testament to his vision, artistry, and the powerful impact of voice in shaping our shared musical future.

The single arrives with a video from non-profit organization Chimerik 似不像 who are deeply grateful for their continued creative collaborations with Ruby Singh, most recently for the music video "Radiate". This visual work blends ritualistic choreography, inspired by the rhythmic pulse of the music, like the steady beat of a heart. Motion capture data is transformed into ghostly particle visuals, seamlessly integrating with stunning microscopic footage specifically captured for the project. The video invites reflection on the interconnectedness between the micro and macro levels of existence, layering and transforming each element to deepen the artistic expression and meaning of the work.

MORE ABOUT VOX.INFOLD II
Ruby Singh’s Vox.Infold II explores the gateways on either side of life with songs that welcome incoming souls, mark our time on this earthly plane and honour the outgoing spirits to our ancestors. The album plays within cyclical time echoing (mirroring) the transitions between spirit, birth, life, death and the return to spirit. From the opening song “Solar” that invites the spirits to return to this earthly plane, to the last track “Mojuba,” a Vox.Infold take on a traditional Yoruban Hymn, that  the ancestors sing for us, as we cross over into the next world, inviting us to return to our eternal home. The ensemble consists of PIQSIQ’s Tiffany Ayalik and Inuksuk Mackay, Dawn Pemberton, Russell Wallace, Shamik Bilgi, Tiffany Moses, Hussein Janmohamed and Singh himself to bring together a full bodied, resonant and sensorial expression of our spirits  journeys housed in polyrhythm, polymeter,  lush harmonies, and polyphonic poetry.

“Over the past number of years I’ve lost many elders in my family and, at the same time, a whole lot of beautiful little babies have come into our community. This album was created both as a welcome to the new ones joining us and as prayer for those that have passed, for so much of human history we have used song as a ritual marker for two of life's biggest events: birth and death. Well composing the album I began to think about the music I would like to hear on my own deathbed and realized how similar that would be to a lullaby, on all sides of life we want to feel the love of our dear ones. So this album is an expression of that love we carry for our young ones and our elders as they journey to and from the spirit world.”

The album launch will take place at LOBE’s 4D Spatial Sound Studio in Vancouver on November 29 and 30, featuring live spatial playbacks, an XR lounge with Mixed and Augmented Reality Experiences of Mojuba along with artist talk backs. More info and tickets can be found here.
