Rising pop singer NIA NADURATA follows her minimalist heartbreak ballad, "drive faster", with an upbeat, unapologetic ‘Ms. Steal-Your-Girl’ anthem titled "i think i like your girlfriend". The bubbly disco-inspired summer jam is about an ex-boyfriend dating a new girl, but instead of being jealous, NIA finds herself attracted to her ‘replacement’ and attempts to woo her away: ‘I know what she likes / And you’re not her type’.
“On the surface, ‘i think i like your girlfriend’ could be seen as a quirky revenge plot against a boyfriend that moved on too quickly,” says Nadurata. “Upon further listening, you begin to realize that between my silly, playful little jabs, I’m really acting as more of a ‘Robin Hood’ figure to my ex-boyfriend's' current girlfriend. I fear I might be the only one that will tell her straight up that he’s ‘not doing it right.’ Just trying to be the gal pal she might want in her corner.
“Musically, I pulled a lot of inspiration from more groovy tunes, like ‘Good in Bed’ by Dua Lipa with the playful tone of Lily Allen’s ‘Fuck You’. When you delve into the lyrics a bit more, the song goes hand in hand with Olivia Rodrigo’s playful breakup anthems ‘Good For You’ or even Amy Winehouse’s ‘Stronger than Me’ where she’s really just asking men to do better!”
