Currently preparing their second album to be released in summer 2023, the Canadian trans artist Russell Louder today shares the new single "Going Under’’, a refreshing shanty-esque sea ballad of heartbreak. The song is about wanting to be open to love more than ever, but feeling overwhelmed by the dangers that may come along with it. Even though Russell feels that a heartbreak song is the ultimate cliche, they have decided to embody it anyway.
Written, produced, and arranged by Louder, “Going Under” is an exploration of styles with wacky and haunting vocal harmonies, distorted ukulele, and a strange violin. It was the first time Louder worked with live strings (played by Kinley Dowling). You can clearly feel their roots coming to the surface with this airy new song.
