“Ossature” Video Still

Next week, the Polaris Music Prize jury will determine a winner for this year’s prestigious award. Among the albums shortlisted for consideration is Ouri’s (Ourielle Auvé) Frame Of A Fauna. Released in October of 2021 the success of Frame of a Fauna has also led to international tours supporting Tirzah, Grammy Award Winner Arooj Aftab, Smerz and more. Today, the Montreal-based multi-instrumentalist and producer is releasing the new video for the album’s opening track, “Ossature”, from director Derek Branscombe.

"I revisited the iconic, agile and tense sample of 'Intact Alef' by PTU from one of my favorite labels трип records for this song,” says Ouri. “Rebellious choruses fight submissive verses, puncturing the classical nuances with industrial abrasions and heavy drum samples - tearing down any attempt to keep a disciplined and soft self on top."

In the accompanying K-Hole inspired video, Ouri fights a merciless red hand, offering a trippy visual feast as a conclusion to her album Frame Of A Fauna. Collaborating once more with Derek Branscombe, this video is inspired by a Ketamine treatment Ouri received last year. The video depicts some of her visions, aesthetically transmitting the feeling of this very strange healing experience, a heroic battle and retrieving a lost connection with her ancestors. Derek crafted this world Using a bold and sometimes chaotic mix of VFX and AI-generated animation.

MORE FROM OURI
Recently, Ouri released her first offering of 2022 with the project bt002: self hypnosis tape. The 7-track project is meditative and ambient in nature, with piano-driven instrumentals from Zach Frampton showing off a different side of Ouri's abilities for something more improvisational.

bt002: self hypnosis tape arrived right on the heels of Frame of a Fauna, which finds Ouri exploring the cycle of birth, death, and constant rebirth; transcending through the creation of this album, as she explores what lies inside the lining of the big dharma wheel: trauma, control and vulnerability.

Last year Ouri also released a joint project with Helena Deland, Hildegard, which received widespread critical acclaim with Pitchfork praising the collaboration as "pure creative symbiosis" and The FADER describing as, "a hypnotic composition that ebbs in and out of darkness, mining strength in synchronicity."

Known professionally as Ouri, Auvé grew up in France and moved to Montreal at the age of 16 with dreams of becoming a composer. As Ouri developed her compositional ability, as well as her production and vocal chops, she integrated herself with late-night DJ sets in Montreal's underground rave scene and was eventually selected to take part in Red Bull Music Academy's Montreal Bass Camp. From there, her profile began to grow as she headlined Boiler Room's Montreal showcase, toured with the likes of Yves Tumor and Jacques Greene, released her first EPs Superficial and We Share Our Blood, and collaborated with fellow Montreal artist Helena Deland on the interdimensional Hildegard.
