Today, Busty and The Bass announce the Karneval EP Video Suite and share Chapter 1, “Everything Comes In Waves”. “The concept to do a series of video chapters for KARNEVAL, instead of one single music video, allowed us to showcase the different styles and unique elements from several songs off the EP,” says the band’s Alistair Blu. “It also gave us the opportunity to highlight all of the vocalists from the project: STS (Berlin-based, ATL-born rapper, stylist, and photography connoisseur), Jordan Brown (Philly-based singer/songwriter), Mel Pacifico (longtime Montreal-based collaborator and live-show companion), and myself. Director Jean-Luc Oicle translated the quirky and soulful themes from the EP into four distinct chapters, with each carrying a broader narrative over the course of the series. The shoot itself took place about an hour and a half drive from Montreal in the woods next to a river. The bugs were really bad at the time and we were constantly trying to maintain our composure on camera while trying to swat away thousands of mosquitos. Two of the video chapters were shot in one take (“Merry Go Round” and “My Parade”) and since it was captured all on film and the sun was setting fast, there wasn’t a whole lot of room for error. Jordan and Eric nailed the last performance of My Parade (which was recorded live next to the river) just as the sun gave its last light and the bugs were swarming in.”

“In collaboration with Busty and The Bass, we decided to go with a performance-based narrative exploring themes of relationship and nostalgia with a hint of Karneval!” says director Jean-Luc Oicle. “In keeping the conceptual dimension of the video light, we gave space for Busty and The Bass to carry us forward through their dynamic performances. We explored various cinematic techniques to work synergistically with the energy of each song, driving home an emotion, or just keeping things funky and progressive!”

With their seamless blend of soulful vocals, hip hop, jazz-funk instrumentals, and signature brass and synths, Busty and the Bass is ushering in a new era of genre-defying sound. The band has released 2 full length albums, both produced by GRAMMY Award-winning producer Neal Pogue (Doja Cat, Anderson Paak, Tyler the Creator), and have collaborated with George Clinton, Macy Gray, Earth, Wind, & Fire's bassist Verdine White and more. Philly rapper and spoken word artist S.T.S. was discovered by DJ Jazzy Jeff, co-wrote Ciara's hit “Oh” and signed a deal with Def Jam before a near-fatal car accident put his career on pause. Over the years, S.T.S. rebuilt his career collaborating with a diverse range of artists such as Joywave, The Roots, RJD2, Agoria, and many more.
