Hot off a run of tour dates with Donovan Woods in support of her new album Stolen Time, internationally acclaimed songwriter Abigail Lapell is sharing a new single, “La Cascade”, a song about loss, heartbreak and, ultimately, finding peace amid impermanence. Channelling natural imagery and the revolving days and seasons, the bittersweet ballad laments memory’s slow erosion, like rocks worn away by running water. At the same time, Lapell finds moments of grace/comfort in conversation with a departed loved one, their presence and connection persisting, continually transformed, through decades and across generations.

The lyrics were co-written with celebrated Toronto writer and translator Jessica Moore, a long-time collaborator of Lapell’s. Performed live off the floor on vocals and classical guitar, with a ghostly whistle solo, the song’s delicate descending notes fall like a cascade of tears, cleansing and purifying.

MORE ABOUT ABIGAIL LAPELL
Over the past decade and three spellbinding albums, Lapell has garnered two Canadian Folk Music Awards (English Songwriter of the Year in 2020 and Contemporary Album of the Year in 2017), hit number one on Canadian folk radio, and accrued a staggering 13 million+ Spotify streams while touring widely across Canada, the U.S., and Europe.

Her latest LP, Stolen Time, out now via Outside Music, strikes a fine balance between her hushed acoustic debut, Great Survivor, and her two rockier, Chris Stringer produced records, Hide Nor Hair and Getaway. Stolen Time brings a live-off-the-floor 70s folk-rock vibe with more structural experimentation to the table on songs that feel expansive in their scope; unhurried, psychedelic, and other-worldly.
