For the sixth episode of Killbeat’s collaboration with Pondercast, titled PonderBeat, Laurie Brown begins with “Things I Do” from Andy Shauf, who she calls one of the best songwriters in Canada. Then, Ada Lea helps us to find another form of ourselves in “woman, here” while Toronto sextet Jaunt bring in old sounds from new electronics in “Nostalgia For The Present Moment”. Both Braids’ “Eclipse (Ashley)” and Austra’s “Risk It” take our minds to big places from the dangerous small moments of toxic relationships.
Shifting gears, Mister Nobu brings a similar organic, open, hopefulness that you might find in his Choir! Choir! Choir! performances with “Best Of Me” from his new solo album, while simplicity and sincerity take the forefront in Dana Gavanski’s “Good Instead Of Bad”.
Another one of Laurie’s favourite Canadian songwriters, Rose Cousins’ “The Agreement” puts words to shadows and makes you feel all of the things at once. The episode rounds out with R Grunwald’s “Age”, a sparse instrumental about the life cycle of human which is waiting for you to fill it up with meaning.
