As Terra Lightfoot’s New Mistakes tour continues to roll onward around the world, the artist released the third single from her critically acclaimed album, “Ruthless”. The single is paired with a video directed by Lightfoot’s trusted creative collaborator, director Dustin Rabin (Foo Fighters, Eagles of Death Metal, Billy Talent), who previously directed the videos for Lightfoot’s singles “Paradise” and “Pinball King”, and was also responsible for the album photography on New Mistakes.
“It’s always amazing working with Dustin, but this was the most fun of any of our shoots,” says Lightfoot. “We hit it off when we first met, but over the past year of working together we’ve developed a real bond and a kind of shared language, so this video is more personal and unguarded than anything we’ve done before.”

With “Ruthless”, Rabin captures Terra’s infectious personality and playful but voracious musical spirit, while also embodying the song’s themes of trust and human connection. The lyrics are especially resonant given her epic touring schedule, but Lightfoot has had a special connection to the song from the start.
“When I'm writing a song, I pay attention to the first idea that I get and try and honour it as much as I can,” Lightfoot says. “And sometimes, I play it for the first time and it just clicks. It’s beautiful when it unfolds that way, though it rarely does. ‘Ruthless’ was one of those exceptions. This one is really close to my heart. It's a tender song about falling in love at a messy time in your life, when nothing’s really working out and you’re not really the person you want to be quite yet. And, of course, it’s about trying to love somebody long distance when you’re travelling. It’s about trust and believing that even when you don’t hear from them, that everything is going to be fine.”

Shot through with the guitarist-vocalist’s powerful, bluesy soul, vivid lyrics and six-string virtuosity, it’s an unforgettable outing. Since the album’s release in fall 2017, Terra has played roughly 100 live dates and toured four continents, playing high-energy concerts across the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, the United Kingdom and Europe.
