Brendan Canning, co-founder of the seminal alt-rock collective known as Broken Social Scene, today released a #NSFW visual take on the song, “Book it To Fresno” off of his critically acclaimed new record, Home Wrecking Years, out now via Arts & Crafts.
The video is a tender, yet controversial look at the relationship between a father and son, set to the backdrop of a nudist colony. With its cast of real-life nudist community members, the video pairs the triumphant sound of “Book It To Fresno” with a beautifully unadorned story of acceptance and freedom.
Brendan Canning told The Fader, "I had never met them (the directing team of Luke McCutcheon & Mike Yablonski) before they came over to my house one evening to pitch the idea of a young man looking for his estranged father at a nudist resort. Once they told me about their 'textile-free' meeting with the manager of the resort as per his request, they gained my trust and confidence instantly. All I asked was to make it look cool and in the end they went above and beyond my request. Top marks!"
Luke and Mike added, "We've wanted to explore the theme of naturism in a video for quite some time now and when this song came around it felt like a great fit. We were also just tired of making videos with our clothes on. Thanks to the community at Bare Oaks (the nudist colony where the video was shot) we were able to make that dream come true.”

Canning’s other band, Broken Social Scene, recently played their first full shows in a few years at Pitchfork Festival in Chicago and Panorama Music Festival in New York City, treating fans to old favourites, new music, and a couple tracks played from Canning’s new collection. Broken Social Scene has announced they are back in the studio working on the follow-up to 2010’s Forgiveness Rock Record.
