Halfway between Canada’s largest city, Toronto, and the lakes and forests of cottage country, Barrie, Ontario’s HarpAcash & the Morals utilize their surroundings to create a unique style of indie folk-rock that combines the tension of the former with the peacefulness of the latter.  Having just signed with Latent Recordings, the trio are set to release their upcoming LP, Lamps, on September 23.

With Michael Timmins (Cowboy Junkies) at helm in studio, lead vocalist HarpAcash, guitarist Todd Jeffrey, and drummerDaniel Trickett gathered to record the heartbreaking harmonies, graceful guitars, and the idiosyncratic minimalist percussion that forms Lamps. The songs themselves rise and fall with a raw sincerity. Lead single “Douglas Snow” is about “being little and how we perceive things as children,” says HarpAcash. “It's about our job to keep all children safe so they can freely enjoy being young and carefree.”

It was after supporting the Cowboy Junkies on a string of dates that Michael Timmins was impressed by the trio. “Their music pulled me from backstage and compelled me to listen,” says Timmins. “HarpAcash's vocals alone are a force of nature, but joined with Todd Jeffery's angular song structures and Dan Trickett's powerful, multi-dimensional drumming, their music becomes wholly original."

HarpAcash & the Morals recorded their first EP, Music Tree Life Understanding, in 2012 with producer Steve Singh (Ron Hawkins, Brendan Canning). They followed it up by hitting the stage with the likes of Elliott Brood, The Strumbellas, and the Cowboy Junkies, and secured a residency at Toronto’s Cameron House. Stay tuned as the band’s debut full length will be released later this year with more tour dates to follow.
