Kalle Mattson recently proclaimed that “folk is dead” with the release of his first new track in three years, “Broken In Two”, a sonic palate cleanser for those audiences familiar with his past which also leads the way for a new album due later this year. The single sees Mattson shift the focus from acoustic guitars to haunting keyboards and drum machines with help from producer Colin Munroe (Drake, Sky Ferreira). Today, Mattson says, “we are feeding the Internet with more #Relevant #Content for my #Brand,” with the new acoustic ‘Folk Is Dead’ session video for “Broken In Two”.

"My motto going into this new album was ‘folk is dead’, but I still ended up demoing all of these songs with just me and an acoustic guitar in my bedroom...unique, I know,” says Mattson. “Calling these stripped down live videos the ‘Folk Is Dead’ sessions is tongue-in-cheek, but will hopefully give you a look into the songwriting process from those early demos to the production choices we made along the way.”

“Broken In Two” leads the way for a new coming-of-age album from the Polaris Music Prize and JUNO Award nominated songwriter. Sonically, the LP imagines what it would sound like if Tycho made a folk record...or if 808s-era Kanye got his hands on some Sufjan Stevens demos. Watch folkisdead.com for more details on the new record to be released in the near future.
