This afternoon, Zane Lowe premiered the new single from Overcoats on his Beats 1 show. The club-ready, brass-heavy song “Leave The Light On” is the latest cut from Overcoats’ debut album YOUNG, out April 21 via Arts & Crafts. “We wrote it after a long winter in NYC, after feeling monumental changes in our social lives, our everyday existence and realizing what it means to be far from our parents,” Overcoats’ Hana Elion tells Nylon. “The song, for us, is about realizing that you are changing and transforming – everybody always is – and that you can embrace the ways in which you are moving forward.”

Earlier this year the duo released “Hold Me Close” which has spent the last few weeks in CBC Radio 2’s Top 20. NPR’s All Songs Considered called the song “...a fresh approach to a time-tested formula, presenting sentimental songwriting over electronic beats, both hearty and sparse.”

Beginning tomorrow, Overcoats will spend a number of dates opening for Tennis and  Maggie Rogers, along with more headlining dates on the west coast in June. The band will also perform at SXSW before embarking on their tour in support of YOUNG in April. Full tour routing below.

YOUNG has earned early praise from Gorilla vs. Bear and NPR. Co-produced by Nicolas Vernhes (The War On Drugs, Dirty Projectors) and Autre Ne Veut, YOUNG is a story about growing up told through the lens of two women who are wise beyond their years.

Overcoats is comprised of former college roommates Hana Elion and JJ Mitchell, who co-wrote all twelve songs on YOUNG. The two were drawn to each other when they first met as teenagers in 2011, finding connection in a love of diverse musical styles, and forging a closeness that verges on sisterhood. Both members of Overcoats describe the first time hearing each other sing as an epiphany: the harmony of their voices leading to personal, individual discovery.

TORONTO'S DOWNTOWN MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL RETURNS FOR FIFTH ANNIVERSARY
SATURDAY JUNE 3 & SUNDAY JUNE 4 AT FORT YORK & GARRISON COMMON

ALL TICKETS ON SALE FRIDAY, MARCH 10 @ 10AM ET

MARCH 6, 2017 – Toronto’s essential downtown music and arts festival is celebrating five years with its biggest lineup yet.

Field Trip has become the unofficial kick off to the city’s busy summer festival season and this year’s bill continues a tradition of curating a world-class, boutique music event inside the gorgeous and intimate confines of the city's Historic Fort York & Garrison Common. Driven by a love of community and discovery, Field Trip 2017 welcomes a rich program of not only music, but family-friendly programming, comedy and an exploration of Toronto’s culinary scene starring some of the city’s leading entrepreneurs. All the music, food, drink and activities integrate with collaborative explorations on themes of visual art, technology, fashion and more, like nowhere else.

Saturday's musical program will be headlined by Arts & Crafts flagship act and Field Trip I headliner Broken Social Scene. BSS will be supported by indigenous electronic trio A Tribe Called Red, whose 2016 release We Are The Halluci Nation has cemented them as one of Canada’s most important acts. Other highlights include Alaska rock band Portugal. The Man. and a rare appearance by California rap legends The Pharcyde, celebrating 25 years of seminal debut Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde.

On Sunday, French giants Phoenix will co-headline alongside Toronto’s indie royalty Feist, who returns to Field Trip for the first time since 2013. Other Day 2 highlights feature the singular, jazz influenced sounds of BADBADNOTGOOD and Thundercat and a soulful set from Irish songwriter James Vincent McMorrow.

2017 also means another exciting year of Field Trip’s Day Camp programming, where families enjoy a range of immersive activities where music, education and discovery intersect like nowhere else. As with every Field Trip, children under the age of 12 can attend for free.

Field Trip V also includes a full, to-be-announced lineup inside the Laugh Barracks, an indoor comedy showcase stage with performances from some of Toronto’s funniest. And of course, 2017 will feature a new collection of artists in residence, working together to transform Fort York & Garrison Common into an unforgettable visual exploration.

“Toronto is truly one of the world’s great homes to diversity and the intersection of creativity and community is alive in countless forms,” says Field Trip Co-Director Aaron Miller. “The last five years have been a steady reminder of the festival’s opportunity to bring people together. We take great pride in the intimacy and variety of Field Trip and a deep connection with the City of Toronto.”

“Field Trip holds a special place in the hearts of the many contributors who work on the festival every year,” adds Erik Hoffman, Live Nation’s Toronto president. “Celebrating its fifth edition, the festival’s lineup tips its hat to founding artists who graced our stage in Year One while highlighting some of this year’s most exciting new artists from around the planet. A true urban event, Field Trip has grown into one of Toronto’s flagship festivals and we couldn’t be more proud of it.”

ABOUT FIELD TRIP MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL
2017 marks the fifth anniversary of Toronto’s Field Trip Music & Arts Festival, the first edition of which was a 10-year anniversary celebration of iconic Canadian independent music company Arts & Crafts. Today Arts & Crafts and Live Nation partner on an event that’s about much more, about creativity and community in its many forms, and a celebration of diversity and the City of Toronto. With a new album, Apocalipstick, and run of Canadian tour dates on the horizon, The Harpoonist & The Axe Murderer, aka Shawn Hall and Matt Rogers, are sharing the new video for album cut “Forever Fool” courtesy of Indie 88.

“Forever Fool” is “a story of revenge, transition, and thrills- this one told against a glamorous backdrop of sexy dancers, neon lights, and dark shadows,” says director Stefan Berrill. “The story follows the takeover of a 1970s nightclub from a set of backroom greasy gangsters by two badass babes who carry with them an air of vengeance and authority.”  The video “exemplifies the power of the get back, take back, want back, demand for equalization,” claims Hall. “This one just so happens to be wearing stilettos."

Due out March 24, Apocalipstick The Harpoonist & The Axe Murderer claim the album "came together from the desire for companionship, the endless pursuit of tone, the strength and glue of family, and above all, the love and admiration for each other's skills. Whether it was operating a tape machine with Jedi precision, creating meals that fuelled us, or belting out glass shattering ‘ohs’ and ‘ahs’, it was the elbow grease of many individuals that brought this project to life."

Framed by psychedelic landscapes and world-ending jam-outs, The Harpoonist & The Axe Murderer ignite the gritty, blues-rock grooves they have been recognized for by adding drummer John Raham (The Be Good Tanyas) and keyboardist Geoff Hilhorst (The Deep Dark Woods) into the melting pot as well as the golden sounds of Dawn Pemberton, Andrina Turenne, Alexa Dirks (Begonia), Ben Rogers, Khari Wendell McClelland, Erik Nielsen, and Ricardo Khayatte. Add equal parts soulful, sweaty vocals, and biting nasty guitar and you have an album perfect for any doomsday date-night.

On March 29 The Harpoonist & The Axe Murderer will continue their cross Canada tour, taking Apocalipstick on the road with Ryan McNally, and Leeroy Stagger And The Rebeltone Sound. Full tour dates can be found below.

Hall and Rogers have received considerable recognition in the last few years. Their previous album, A Real Fine Mess, was nominated for a JUNO Award as Blues Album Of The Year, Video of the Year and Best Blues Album at the Western Canadian Music Awards, and the duo were also nominated for four Maple Blues Awards and won 'Blues Act of the Year' at the SiriusXM Indies in 2013. They’ve also had songs featured on television shows such as the 'The Good Wife', 'Blue Bloods', and the aptly named TV movie 'Lizzie Borden Took An Axe'.
