We Are The City are three young composers from Kelowna, BC: Andy Huculiak on the drums, David Menzel on guitar, and Cayne McKenzie on vocals and keys. Their debut album “In A Quiet World” was recorded with producer Tom Dobrzanski ( Said The Whale, Hey Ocean, Lotus Child) over the course of seven weeks at Vertical Studios in Vancouver and they have been turning heads ever since. With a cross Canada tour already under their belts, and a buzz that is anything but quiet, We Are The City is now ready to officially release their debut long player.
The band took on playing numerous shows around BC, and jobs as they were completing high school, in hopes to raise enough to record an album. Even though they were able to pull together a few thousand, with a date set for the first day in the studio looming close, they realized that they were going to need some financial support. We Are The City launched a donation page, with complete honesty that they were in need of assistance from their loyal fans. They put together four different donation packages, each with a list of benefits for the fan, and a price range that they could choose. These packages listed benefits from a signed copy of the CD, to a personalized YouTube video created by the boys. Through these online donation packages, the boys were able to raise over $3500 to put towards the album costs. Their Thank You videos, have since become a hit online with their ever growing fan base featuring anything from a video where Andy and David accidentally blow up Cayne, to an extensive short film where Cayne and Andy create a machine that shrinks David. We Are The City are brothers drawn together to explore their own musical renaissance. From pin drop moments of absolute beauty to breathtaking crashes of wide eyed anthemic glory, their heart, innocence and sincerity will find you clenching your fists and remembering your own bruised teenaged knuckles. With another Canadian tour looming early in 2010, We Are the City have penned an open invitation to come and be a part of their own city. Wherever you may be.
