Banjo Hockey is the second CD from the Tim Posgate Hornband and once again features the legendary New York tuba player and multi instrumentalist Howard Johnson (Taj Mahal, The Band, Miles Davis)
Tim Posgate has made his reputation over the last fifteen years as a guitarist but his recent obsession with the five-string banjo has formed the inspiration for Banjo Hockey. Howard Johnson has toured the world in support of his Verve Records releases for his famous tuba ensemble Gravity and has played on over four hundred recordings with artists such as John Lennon, Gil Evans, Charles Mingus and The Band.
Rounding out the quartet are saxophonist Quinsin Nachoff and trumpeter Lina Allemano. Both are multi award winning musicians and keep busy in the studio and on tour both as band leaders and with artists that include Jane Bunnett, Dave Holland, Kenny Wheeler, and Dave Douglas among others.
The unique instrumentation of tuba, banjo, clarinet/saxophone and trumpet coupled with the mélange of each player’s numerous influences make Banjo Hockey a genre bending, original and magical musical journey
