BRANDON WOLFE SCOTT - “FADE OUT”
LABEL : DINE ALONE

“Fade Out” is a song “with several facets,” says B.C. songwriter Brandon Wolfe Scott (Yukon Blonde) about his new single. “On the top level it's a song about modern society and how we, as a society, are losing the ability to focus due to the accessibility and obsession with social media. Unfortunately, I often feel as if our attention spans are lapsing because we are so used to receiving information at lightning speed and being kept entertained by these instantaneous hits of dopamine, and that we can’t sit and focus without reaching out for those moments.

The second level is how this all affects me personally in general. Those close to me, and certainly my partner, are consistently telling me that I easily tend to ‘fade out’ during conversations and it's actually been jokingly coined as ‘hologramming’ by friends, but that didn't roll off the tongue as nicely in the context of the song!

And on a third level this song is about very specific situations that started to surface due to living in close quarters with my partner during the pandemic. As lockdown started to stretch on longer and longer, these habits of ‘fading out’ were becoming more prominent and noticeable, and inevitably started to weigh on our relationship. I wanted to write a song to myself as a reminder, almost like a mantra, to stay in the present and accountable.”
